MatCHMaker at EMMC 2025: Contributing to Innovation and Collaboration in Materials Modelling

We were proud to take part in the 5. EMMC International Workshop 2025, held in Vienna under the theme “Accelerated Innovation and Sustainability by a Materials Modelling and Data Ecosystem.”

Project partners from CEA, Heidelberg Materials, SINTEF, and TU Wien attended in person, engaging with a broad community of experts and EU projects from various disciplines.

Featured in Session 1 – Advancements in Materials Modelling, Sophie Schmid delivered a compelling talk titled “Lessons Learnt in a European Cement Research Project.” Her presentation sparked meaningful discussion around trust, adoption, and practical challenges in implementing modelling within industrial research settings, particularly in the cement sector.

One of the key highlights was the presentation by our partner Alexandre Ouzia from Heidelberg Materials (Germany), titled “Survey of the Practices, Needs, and Challenges of the Characterisation and Modelling Workflow in EU Projects.” His talk provided valuable insights from five Horizon Europe sister projects – AddMorePower, AID4GREENEST, CoBRAIN, Knowskite-X, and D-STANDART– and addressed the need for more integrated workflows in materials characterisation and modelling.

In another notable contribution, our partner Jesper Friis from SINTEF (Norway) co-moderated a session on “Interoperability and Data Sharing Across Boundaries” alongside Simon Stier of the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC (Germany). The session encouraged active discussion on enhancing data exchange and collaboration across domains.

The MatCHMaker team was pleased to contribute to the event’s success, gaining fresh perspectives and strengthening partnerships that support the future of materials science in Europe.
